Flight Club Birmingham’s Brunch Social

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of darts? For me it’s beer bellies, second-hand smoke and Bullseye. Flight Club Birmingham’s Brunch Social is all about making darts trendy and fun. Think social darts but with bottomless pizza and just enough prosecco to improve your non-existent darts skills.

I was gifted two complimentary tickets to attend Flight Club Birmingham’s Brunch Social. After attending their launch party in July. I was very excited to go. Upon entering Flight Club you’ll be taken aback by how colourful it is, the fairground style lights and stained glass inspired windows.

Let’s brunch

After a hellish journey to town (on public transport, no less) I met my friend Shauny in Pigeon Park. I gave Flight Club a call as I was running late due to a dispute with passengers on the bus. The reception staff were really nice and escorted us to our own personal oche. The waitress was really friendly and made sure we understood exactly what to expect from our Brunch Social. After she reeled off the game rules and objectives at lightning speed we were greeted by our lovely waiter for the day. I feel so bad because I can’t remember his name but he was fab. He kept topping up our glasses with prosecco and kept checking on us to see if we needed anything.

What you get for your money

As part of Flight Club Birmingham’s Brunch Social you get bottomless pizza, a bottle of prosecco each, unlimited naturally flavoured water and juice. The pizza was an impressive size, tasted great and despite being vegan you couldn’t tell. Shauny liked her pizza too, but found it to be a little bit greasy. The prosecco was lovely, not too sweet or dry – we had no trouble finishing it before the 2 hours was up!

What darts games can you play?

When in the oche you have five darts games to choose from: Demolition, Shanghai, Killer, Snakes & Ladders and Quackshot.

Demolition is the easiest to play in my opinion and great for beginners. The aim of the game is to get from 180 points to 0 points before your opponent. You do this by hitting the dart board and scoring as many points as you can. There’s a large TV screen above the darts board that helps you keep track of who’s winning and how many points you need to score to ‘CHECK OUT!’. If you score more points than needed then you’re ‘BUST!’ and the game will continue until there’s a winner. Because this game is so simple it’s really enjoyable and is my favourite.

I have a love/hate relationship with Snakes & Ladders and it’s just like the childhood game you remember.  Just when you think victory is in your grasp, you land on one of those dutty snakes. During the launch party I came thisss close to winning twice on the board but both times I hit that pesky Black Mamba snake on number 62 and down I went. Even though it’s a hard game to win, it’s still a blast to play.

Killer is definitely for those with some skill. The screen gives you a target number you have to hit a certain number of times. After doing this successfully you then have to hit your opponent’s target number to win. This game kicked our butts, I’m pretty sure Shauny won this one.

The Brunch Social Experience

During our game play, our attentive waiter kept topping up our glasses, asking if we needed anything and seemed genuinely interested if we were having fun. There were two ladies next to us also enjoying their Brunch Social and kindly gifted us their prosecco as they had a party to host and didn’t want to be tipsy. Cue my friend and I welcoming said gift with open arms 😉

I ordered a second pizza after demolishing the first one. My eyes were too big for my belly and without having to ask a waiter offered me a pizza box. I gave it to a homeless man. We finished the Brunch Social in style; bloated but happy. We didn’t want to rush off so stayed to enjoy a cocktail and bask in the ambience. It’s nice to watch other people having fun as they play. We didn’t realise it at the time but we would wake up the next day with a hoarse voice and a sore arm! That should tell you how much fun we had 🙂

How to Book

If you book the Brunch Social on a Sunday it’s £25 per person and on a Saturday it’s £30. The time slots are either 12pm – 2pm or 2:30pm – 4:30pm. I know this might be expensive but this gets you a two hour slot so you can play darts, eat pizza and drink prosecco to your heart’s content. It’s cheaper than most nights out, let’s be honest.

You can book Flight Club Birmingham’s Brunch Social through Design My Night. If you’re not fussed about food and drink then you can book Flight Club Social Darts experience instead. This will get you 90 minutes of darts play and groups need to be a minimum of 6 people on weekdays after 4pm and all day on Saturday. The Social Darts experience is £30 at peak times and £15 off peak. If you book 90 minutes off peak it’s approximately £22.50 per booking rather than per person. This makes it a very affordable group activity.

So is the Brunch Social worth it?

I think the concept is fab. You get lots of food and drink and two hours of darts. We were able to play every single game, some of them twice! It’s a lot of fun and absolutely no skill is required. I think it’d be a wicked first date activity as it really breaks the ice and you have something to do besides watch each other eat lol.
