Flight Club Birmingham Launch Party

I can now say I’ve been to a launch party and it was a lot of fun! Flight Club Birmingham had their launch party on the 18 July. The grand opening was on the 19 July. Which means I got to sample all the beautiful newness of this brand new darts bar before everyone else. I knew nothing about the concept of social darts until Flight Club came on the scene. While they’re new to Birmingham, they’ve been around since 2012 with bars in London, Manchester, Chicago and Boston. I’m a little salty that Manchester got a bar before us, seeing as we’re officially the second city, but whatever…

First impressions

I went with my good friend Siu Li Boo. I call her Boo. She came all stunning in a blush lace skirt and top and I came straight from work in my worn black skater dress. Thank God for her car which allowed me to do a mini beat before we arrived. Upon arrival they ticked our names at the door and gave us a wrist band. Once inside my eyes were like saucers as the bar is beautiful, colourful and bright. The first thing that caught my eye were the fairground style lights that decorated the ceiling and walls. There was a lady pouring prosecco into fancy glasses and music was blaring.

For the first hour or so Boo and I just soaked up the atmosphere. The bar was packed with people and everyone was smiling and taking it all in. Armed with our prosecco we got a mini tour from Molly, one of the lovely wait staff at Flight Club. She was full of energy and took us upstairs to check the place out.

The games we play

We were encouraged to sign up at reception so we could play some darts – essentially the Social Darts experience. As it was just two of us they assigned us to another group of people. I met Maddie, her friend Milly and Helen and Suzy who worked on the acoustics. Now we were in a team it was time to play! The first game we played was Demolition. The aim of the game is to be the first one left with 0 points from 180. Certain areas of the board give you points, sometimes double or triple. You want to hit the board and score loads of points so you can win – just don’t score more than you need or you’ll be ‘BUST!’ and the game will continue until there’s a winner. Absolutely no experience is needed to have fun playing this game – it’s definitely my favourite.

The Social Darts Experience gives you a minimum of an hour of game play so gave Snakes & Ladders a go. Snakes & Ladders is bound to bring out the sore loser in you.  By sore loser, I mean me. I hit that so-called Stairway to Heaven twice and came so close to winning, but alas it was not meant to be. The Black Mamba got me and we all drew in this game. Despite this, it’s a fun game and definitely challenges you more than Demolition.

Food & drink

Now all this darts throwing made us hungry and they really took care of us. There was so much food being passed around that it was hard for my eyes and tummy to keep up. Shout out to the babe who would not leave us alone with the food. It got to the point where I started playfully chastising her for being such a feeder!

This mini burger was all I managed to snap! My favourite nibbles included the buttermilk chicken, bruschetta with salmon and *countless* canapes I have no photos of because I ate it!

Our hour flew by and sadly it was time to leave the oche. I really enjoyed mingling and talking to people. By chance I bumped into Laura of BiteYourBrum which is all about the best places to eat and drink in Birmingham. I watch her insta stories a lot so it was surreal to meet her IRL 🙂 As was meeting Maddie also a Brummie blogger who has a lifestyle and fashion blog. Now we didn’t have darts to occupy us, we were free to enjoy the libations which were plentiful.

The music picked up and people started dancing and somehow I got dragged into this. There was a cameraman filming the shenanigans. Whilst playing darts he managed to catch me. See if you can spot me playing here on this promo video.

The staff and the decor

If you’re like me then this is especially important. I’m very sensitive to my environment and thankfully I felt comfortable here, even though it was crowded. I absolutely love the decor. As I said before it’s bright, colourful and obvious that no detail was left to chance. Here are some photos for your viewing pleasure.

The staff were amazing, really friendly, full of energy and kept the food and drinks flowing. They even let me take photos of them and were dancing non-stop.

If you want to experience Flight Club I highly recommend their Social Darts experience. £15 (off peak) for a group of 6 gets you one hour in the oche and if you want longer you can opt for a 90 minute slot. This price is per booking rather than per person which makes it a super cheap activity.
